Hello and welcome to the first of many stories

“Dad,” twelve-year-old Marcus said, tugging at his father’s sleeve, “how do you build a table?”

His dad raised an eyebrow. “A table? What for? You trying to start building furniture now?”

Marcus shook his head. “Not furniture. Just one table. Big enough to hold a pitcher, cups, and maybe a sign.”

“A sign?” His dad’s lips curled into a smile. “What’s going on, kid?”

Marcus looked serious, his hands moving as if sketching shapes in the air. “I want to sell lemonade. Right here in front of the house. But I can’t just put it on the ground. I need a table. You know—so it looks real, like a business.”

His dad chuckled. “Alright, alright. A businessman already, huh? Well, you’ll need four legs, something flat for the top, and screws to hold it together. But more important—you’ll need patience. Building anything means measuring twice, cutting once. You can’t rush it.”

Marcus’s eyes lit up. “So if I get the wood, you’ll help me build it?”

“You get the wood,” his dad said, nodding slowly, “and I’ll teach you how to make it stand sturdy enough to hold your lemonade empire.”

Marcus grinned from ear to ear and ran off toward the garage, already thinking of signs and prices.

Later that evening, while Marcus was in his room scribbling ideas in a notebook, his dad leaned against the kitchen counter and told his wife, “You know what that boy asked me today? How to build a table.”

She looked up from the dishes. “A table? For what?”

“He says he wants to sell lemonade in front of the house. Wants it to look official. I think he’s serious about it.”

She dried her hands, smiling softly. “That’s our Marcus. Always dreaming. Maybe this is the start of something.”

His dad chuckled, shaking his head. “Or maybe just a lot of lemon peels in the trash. Either way, he’s learning.”

And upstairs, with pencil smudges on his fingers, Marcus was sketching his stand—imagining customers, counting change, and building more than just a table. He was building the start of a business mind.
